Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Setting the tone for this Lenten period, Biblioteca Los Mangos and organizer Cecilia Scriban are very proud to invite you to a very special piano recital on Thursday, April 10 at 7:00 pm.

One of the Library's music workshop longstanding piano students, Joshua Rodriguez Macias, who now aspires to become an accomplished pianist and will pursue higher musical studies in Guadalajara this fall, will perform a free piano recital, which is wonderful news for classical music lovers here in Puerto Vallarta!

Joshua's exciting program, and an ambitious one too, offers a coherent and eclectic range of musical styles and flavors... from dramatic and lyrical Bach, to compelling classical-romantic Beethoven, delightfully sunny Haydn, crossing to Chopin's poetic melancholy, Debussy's evocative dreaminess, and even 'exotic' Eric Satie.

Such an exciting musical trip for an otherwise quiet evening is a unique treat... besides, we'll be encouraging this promising talent to reach for the stars.

From the outset, celebrating classical artistic expression has been a continuous endeavor to nurture and increase awareness and appreciation of this genre of music. The idea of organizing such performances and providing a platform for the young classical musicians of Puerto Vallarta came to the promoter, Maestra Cecilia Scriban, as a natural extension of her lifelong musical teaching career.

A resident here in Vallarta for over ten years now, she believes that "bi-annual events, where music teachers and students can showcase their talents, are much needed here - to motivate students, parents and teachers alike."

All this will go a long way towards "encouraging the appreciation and performance of classical music, which - alas - is still in short supply in Vallarta." This event also aims to encourage and foster a stronger classical music education among the people of this beloved town.

Although no longer teaching, Cecilia's goal remains "to encourage and engage young people from an early age to take an interest in classical music" - a goal that she has held dear throughout her extensive teaching career in England, Canada, India and China.

Be sure to mark your calendars, gather up your friends, and come out to Biblioteca Los Mangos on Thursday, April 10 at 7:00 pm to celebrate and encourage this gifted young man as he makes his debut on the Library's welcoming stage.
