La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Mexico - The fourth annual Aguas Abiertas Open Water Swimming Competition organized by Nado Seguro has been announced, and it is scheduled to take place at 7:00 am on May 17, 2014 at Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle.
In past years, swimmers of all ages and in all categories have tested their resistance in this competition, with 7 to 20 year-olds making a 500 m lap; kids ages 11 and 12 swimming 1.250 km.; swimmers ages 13 and 14 competing in the 2.5 km swim, and amateurs 15 years and older swimming the 3.75 km in the required time of under 2 hrs.
The main competition is a 5k race for professional swimmers with a time limit of 1 hour, 20 min. This is the only category with prizes, which are as follows:
1st Place - Trophy and $4,000 pesos
2nd Place: Medal and $3,000 pesos
3rd Place: Medal and $2,000 pesos
4th Place: Medal and $1,000 pesos
5th Place: Medal and $500 pesos
All competitions will be regulated by the International Swimming Federation (Fina) and the Mexican Swimming Federation (FMN), and will be overseen by judges from these institutions. Even though the event is not a qualifier for an international ranking, it will serve as a preparatory event for many competitors towards the National Olympics.
Aguas Abiertas Riviera Nayarit 2014 Nado Seguro is limited to 700 swimmers, with registration open until May 14th. The price to participate is $650 pesos until May 2nd, increasing to $700 pesos after that date. Registration fees include an official event T-shirt and hat, participation medal, Facebook photo downloads, and hydrating refreshments after the competitions.
