Tequila, Mexico - The pages of history are filled with people who took great risks, in order to reap great rewards. People like Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, and Carnegie all built their fortunes on a certain fearlessness, an ability to take risks as life presented opportunities.
Jose Cuervo was different - perhaps a little tipsier - doer who staked his fortune and his reputation entirely on tequila, way back in 1795. Now, 219 years later, we still celebrate the man, drinking his 100% agave premium tequila.
Now, Jose Cuervo is launching a new campaign that reflects the authenticity of their premium 100% agave tequila. Each element - sometimes hilariously - showcases key moments of the Cuervo family’s history, from the erupting volcano that enriched the soil for the agave, to the celebration of Cinco de Mayo, to the heroic actions of Cuervo to end prohibition, the invention of the margarita, and bikini volleyball.
The Cuervo team commissioned the stop-motion animation studio "Laika" to create the miniature pieces and bring the stories to life, and the results are beyond impressive.
But like any modern advertising campaign, the cool stuff doesn’t stop there. Cuervo also developed the "History in a Bottle" app, which they’re calling "The World’s First Augmented Reality Tequila App." When you turn your phone camera on and hover it over a bottle of Tradicional, the app takes over and shows snapshots of the tequila’s history on your screen.
The effect is similar to the way people become twice as confident, sexy, and tough, when they hover a bottle of Tradicional over their mouth.
The overall effect is very well executed and fun to play with, for sure. You should try it for yourself…and of course, if you don’t have a bottle of Cuervo on hand, there’s no time like the present to go out and grab one.
