Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - July 2nd is the 50th anniversary of the signing of The Civil Rights Act of 1964. This sweeping piece of legislation changed many American's lives. It outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin allowing access to jobs, housing, education, strengthening voting rights, and prohibiting discrimination in public schools. John F. Kennedy introduced the bill in 1963; but when he was shot, everyone thought the fight for civil rights died with him. No one believed President Johnson would champion this cause and put his political career at risk.
In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the signing of The Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Costa Banderas Chapter of Democrats Abroad Mexico will celebrate at Nacho Daddy on July 2 at 6 pm. While there, US citizens can get voter registration information and assistance from Democrats Abroad volunteers.
