150 Vallartenses Take the ALS 'Ice Bucket Challenge'

August 28, 2014
On Tuesday, 150 people in Puerto Vallarta took the Ice Bucket Challenge, a campaign that has lit social media on fire raising money and awareness for ALS, also known as 'Lou Gehrig's Disease.'

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - What do 150 people in Puerto Vallarta have in common with Cristiano Ronaldo, Lady Gaga, and Bill Gates? They all took the Ice Bucket Challenge, a campaign that has lit social media on fire raising money and awareness for ALS, also known as 'Lou Gehrig's Disease.'

In addition to raising $11,828.00 pesos for Familiares y Amigos de Enfermos de la Neurona Motora AC, a Mexico City-based non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure and control for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Carlos Gerard Guzman, Puerto Vallarta's Director of Tourism, challenged the cities of Guadalajara (Mexico), Palm Springs (California) and Toronto (Canada) to accept the friendly south-of-the-border challenge to create a video and support the charitable efforts.

Here in Vallarta, Costa Imagine Visual Productions and Skyvideo deployed their drone to capture photos and videos. To be ecologically minded, sea water was used for the project.

Gary Green from Andales on the Bay and Tim Longpré of PVRPV.com coordinated the event held on Puerto Vallarta's world-famous Playa de Los Muertos Pier.

The Puerto Vallarta Fire Department provided volunteers. Sponsors included Cashola, Costa Imagine Visual Productions, Bajo Cero, Sky Video and the City of Puerto Vallarta.
