Amapas Neighborhood Association December News

December 2, 2014

December 1st kicked off the ANA's 2014-2015 Membership & Renewal Drive. Annual membership dues of $100 USD make what we do for the neighborhood possible. Click HERE to join or renew your membership.

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - The Amapas Neighborhood Association (ANA), a group of Mexican and ex-pat residents and business owners that work together to enhance the quality of life through improvements in security, streets and infrastructure, and responsible development, brings us up to date on what's happening in Colonia Amapas.

Amapas Junta Vecinal Talks Trash

A dozen energized neighbors gathered at Coco's Kitchen on November 26th for the monthly meeting of the Amapas Junta Vecinal (Amapas Neighborhood Association.) They discussed progress on the Pulpito Plaza Project currently under construction at the foot of the Pinnacle stairs, where new planters are being built to beautify the area.

Of particular interest was the possibility of a food and beverage concession on the placitas that could be granted in exchange for the provision of $60,000 pesos in street furniture, along with maintenance and keeping the area clean. Signatures were collected on a petition for City approval. Read more about Pulpito Plaza HERE.

The other big topic was the piles of trash that regularly collect on our beach and business area street corners and sidewalks. Junta Committee member Javier Jimenez called for a unified neighborhood effort. The Junta has identified likely locations for larger, covered containers (at an approximate cost of $9,000 pesos each), will petition City Hall for permits and other assistance, and report progress at the next meeting. Neighbors also cited the need for more small trash containers along the sidewalks.

Founding Junta Vecinal member Jae Palsce announced that she will be leaving the Junta, opening a vacancy on the Committee which will be filled at the Junta's January meeting. Anyone interested in standing for election or making a nomination should email in the coming weeks.

"Amapas Night Out" Brings Neighbors Together

Last week, ANA members Jim Davis and David Wilhoit hosted the November Amapas Night Out - our informal monthly 'pot luck appetizers/BYOB gathering' (not 'meeting'). Three dozen members and their guests enjoyed the panoramic view and each other's company, not to mention the wine and tasty appetizers. If you'd like to host a Night Out or help plan or organize an upcoming ANA event, please contact Robin Spencer, Board Member for Social and Special Events, at info@amapaspv.com, and be sure to circle December 19 on your calendar so you won't miss our next Amapas Night Out!

Get In The Christmas Spirit This Week

On Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6, at 7 pm, members of the Puerto Vallarta Men's Choir and school children from Colonia Volcanes will be singing below the electric Christmas tree at Pulpito Plaza - the intersection of Pulpito and Olas Altas, at the foot of the Pinnacle stairs. Come listen on your way to dinner - the event is free and open to the public, but hand-made Christmas angel ornaments will be available for sale. All proceeds go to the Volcanes Community Education Project, a non-profit program that teaches English and computer skills to help break the cycle of poverty through education. Come and enjoy the bilingual Christmas show and buy your own angel to support these great and deserving kids!

Also on Friday, December 5 at 7:30 pm at Teatro Vallarta, the Poligono de Desarrollo Controlado (PDC) - the Romantic Zone's 'organization of organizations' - is sponsoring a Classical Music Concert performed by the Orchestra School of Puerto Vallarta. The show features music by the great Classical composers: Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikosky, Gliere, Rimski-Korsakov, Mahler, Brahms and Elliot de Borgo. Tickets are $200 pesos, available at the door. You can also buy them in advance from Oscar at the Ron Morgan Properties office (#509 Olas Altas,) Monday through Friday from 11 am to 5 pm, and on Saturday mornings. Proceeds go to support the projects of cultural and physical improvement for the Historical Center of Puerto Vallarta. Great music for a worthy cause!

The Amapas Neighborhood Association is the official association of residents and business owners in the Colonia Amapas of Puerto Vallarta. A volunteer and not-for-profit association with about 350 members, the ANA was founded in 2002 to improve the quality of life in Amapas. We work to keep our neighborhood safe, beautiful, desirable and welcoming to tourists and residents from all countries and walks of life. We are also the official "Junta Vecinal" or neighborhood council for Amapas, the legal representative of the neighborhood to the city government. Learn more at AmapasPV.com.
