Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - On March 21, Piņata PV Guest House owners David Tovar and Ronnie Lee, who are known for their community volunteer work, hosted a unique event to raise money for SETAC, Puerto Vallarta's LGBT community center.
The event, called "In & Out of the Luchador Ring," featured Skinny Boys MX and other volunteers in fun and friendly luchador wrestling matches, and was dedicated to raising HIV awareness, furthering AIDS education, and launching two new SETAC projects: La Casita and the soon-to-be-opened Thrift Store.
Afterwards, Ronnie Lee wrote the following letter of thanks:
SETAC received, and is still receiving, donations of clothing, furniture, shoes and housewares for the new Thrift Store at SETAC. This event was dedicated to Awareness & Education, and to launch La Casita and the coming Thrift Store. The $16,000 pesos received and generous donations of objects will kick start the two projects.
We were very pleased to see everyone laughing, cheering, sharing photographs, and socializing. And to see all the buzz on Social Media about the Luchador event brings about awareness for SETAC's mission and for all to see and hear that SETAC is a dedicated Community Center with the goal of educating and providing services for HIV/AIDS, regardless of gender or race. Again, thank you all for sharing your time and donations with SETAC. - Ronnie Lee, Piņata PV
"Our goal is to be a valued Community Center," added the SETAC community center's director, Paco Arjona.
"La Casita (the Community House) is for SETAC patients (young, adult and families) receiving Regional Hospital and CAPASITS medical treatment and are in need of additional shelter, food, safety and services, to ensure that as a community we provide those uninterrupted services.
Your donated goods (used & new) will provide relief and comfort for those suffering and in need of continued medical services. Please consider giving SETAC a donation to supply and support La Casita. Your donation of any goods to our community Thrift Store will be used to support those often not seen in Old Town Vallarta but who are very much a part of the Puerto Vallarta Community."
The purpose of the SETAC Community Center, located at Constitucion #427 and the corner of Manuel Dieguez on the South side of Puerto Vallarta, is to provide essential services to the community, including physical and mental health treatment, referrals, and education in an atmosphere of safety, free from discrimination.
