Riviera Nayarit, Mexico - Under the slogan "55 years of fishing for the big one," the 55th San Blas Riviera Nayarit Fishing Tournament is scheduled to take place June 17-21, 2015 at the Marina Fonatur in the historic Port of San Blas, Nayarit.

Fifty teams from 15 states of the Mexican Republic and abroad are expected to compete in the tournament's three categories: sailfish, marlin and dorado. Every year, the top winner in each category is entered into the "Hall of Fame."

According to event organizers, Club de Pesca Deportiva de Tepic A.C., this year's tournament offers more than four million pesos in prizes, including new cars, boat motors, and professional fishing equipment. And, with anglers from around the world vying to beat the current sailfish record and win a new car, this year’s event promises some hot and heavy competition.

In addition, a raffle will be held among all the contenders and the winner will be also be awarded with a car. All told, this year's prizes include nine cars, marine engines, cash, and professional fishing equipment, among others.

Riviera Nayarit's Conventions and Visitors Bureau (CVB) supports world-class sports competitions like this one, not only because these events draw in visitors, but also because they attract specialized media coverage that is important to the overall promotion of the destination.

6th Children Sport Fishing Tournament

Also this weekend, in celebration of Father's Day, the 6th Children Sport Fishing Tournament will be held in San Blas'Marina Fonatur at 7:30 am on Sunday, June 21st. This tournament offers kids ages 5-11 a day of fun in the sun, while competing for fishing equipment, bicycles, electronic tablets and other great prizes.

Open to all children in the greater Banderas Bay area, the tournament is free. "The price to participate is just a smile and enthusiasm because we don't charge an entry fee... and we even supply the hooks and bait," explains Tepic Fishing Club Director, Francisco Navarrete Buhaya. "As if that were not enough, there will also be games, trampolines, food, music and characters to enliven this family party," he added.
