Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - The Amapas Neighborhood Association (ANA), a group of Mexican and ex-pat residents and business owners that work together to enhance the quality of life through improvements in security, streets and infrastructure, and responsible development, brings us up to date on what's happening in Colonia Amapas.
Plastics Recycling Test Program Gets Underway
This 'low-season test' will let us establish the program, estimate recycling volume and work out any kinks. The program was designed to be self-financed and self-sustaining, but we will need to provide our own pick-up service. This test-run will help us figure out that cost. At the end of the test period, we'll report the results. Based on volume, cost, and the number of participating buildings, we'll determine a cost-sharing amount for those who want to continue participating in the Plastics Recycling Program for a full year.
If you or your building would like to get in on the ground floor and participate in our 3-month test or would like more information, please email us at admin(at)amapaspv.com.
Special thanks to member volunteer Terry Prill (Avalon) for heading up the program, Viviana for managing it, and Fernando for handling test-phase pickups.
Our program is Plastics Only. If it's successful, and recycling for other materials becomes available, we'll look into expanding. But, for now, let's concentrate on plastic containers. "Poco a poco..."
Coming Soon: Pulpito Plaza Landscaping & Lights
Under the guidance of Paul Crist, and with the advice of Bob Price & the Vallarta Botanical Gardens, we will soon have the necessary City permissions and a revised landscape plan that will bring color and beauty to Pulpito Plaza. Included will also be all-weather 'up-lights' to make the new plantings visible by night, as well as three new decorative street lights and attractive trash containers.

The Amapas Neighborhood Association is the official association of residents and business owners in the Colonia Amapas of Puerto Vallarta. A volunteer and not-for-profit association with about 350 members, the ANA was founded in 2002 to improve the quality of life in Amapas. We work to keep our neighborhood safe, beautiful, desirable and welcoming to tourists and residents from all countries and walks of life. We are also the official "Junta Vecinal" or neighborhood council for Amapas, the legal representative of the neighborhood to the city government. Learn more at AmapasPV.com.
