La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Mexico - La Cruz icon, philanthropist, musician, restaurant owner, cruiser advocate and 'Gringo Supreme,' Philo Hayward, passed away on Saturday, September 5th from complications while undergoing heart surgery.
A memorial for Philo will be held on Friday, September 11th at 11:00 am at Philo's Bar & Restaurant, Delfin #15 in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. The staff will be honoring their former jefe and therefore there will be NO food or drink service.
Attendees are encouraged to BYOB and a covered dish to share in the "pot luck" tradition of so many events that have been hosted at Philo's. There will be impromptu music and guests are encouraged to bring their "axes" and participate in the music.
Long time Mexican Shuffle Band-mate, saxophonist Oscar Fuentes has traveled back to La Cruz for the event as well as Luna Rumba guitarist and violinist Geo Ulrich, so you can expect some serious tunes.
This memorial/wake will be the final celebration of the passing of Philo Hayward and attendance is expected to be high, so plan on arriving a bit early if you want a primo seat.
Everyone here at Banderas News joins the long list of Philo's admirers and mourners in sending our deepest condolences to his family and friends. RIP, Philo. You brought so much joy to so many. You will be missed.
