Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - One of the most prestigious national and international sportfishing tournaments on the West Coast, the Torneo Internacional Puerto Vallarta de Pez Vela y Marlin, will celebrate its 60th edition from November 11 through 14, 2015.

Sponsored by the Club de Pesca Puerto Vallarta (Puerto Vallarta Fishing Club), whose objective is to promote sport fishing and the organization of tournaments and sportsmanship, while creating a sense of preservation for the abundant species that reside in the warm blue waters of Banderas Bay and the Mexican Pacific, the International Sailfish and Marlin Tournament offers anglers 3 exciting days of competitive fishing in some of Mexico's finest waters.

It all started in 1956, when Engineer Juan De Dios De La Torre, motivated by the experience of winning first place in a New Zealand fishing tournament, met with a group of his Vallarta friends and convinced them to organize a competition to attract fishermen from other parts of the Republic to Banderas Bay. These friends, all entrepreneurs and visionary people, (three of them were town mayors), believed that sport fishing could trigger tourism, so they founded the Club de Pesca Puerto Vallarta (PV Fishing Club) and hosted their first tournament.

Since anglers from the United States participated in the first tournament, the event was ambitiously named the "International Sailfish Tournament" in 1957. Hand in hand with their strongest sponsor (Mexicana Airlines), the Club de Pesca's sailfish tournament was the first effort to promote Puerto Vallarta as a sport fishing destination.

Today, Torneo Internacional Puerto Vallarta de Pez Vela y Marlin is one of the most prestigious national and international sportfishing tournaments on the West Coast, and this year's event promises to be even bigger and better than ever - with a spirit of friendly competition and thousands of dollars in cash and valuable prizes to be awarded.
