Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico - Last Saturday, hundreds of Charros in traditional costume, accompanied by friends and family riding in calendarias (horse-drawn carriages) and on various other floats, paraded from Guadalajara's city center to the Union Ganadera fairgrounds in Tlaquepaque, where the 50th Anniversary of the Ganadera Expo (livestock exposition) is being held this month as part of Guadalajara's Fiestas de Octubre.
Along with the fair's huge exhibition of live cattle, horses, sheep, goats and farm fowl, the annual livestock expo offers a full program of competitive events and entertainment; scores of vendors selling everything from farm equipment, saddles and western wear to food, refreshments and other merchandise; and a variety of artistic, cultural and gastronomical activities and exhibitions at the Lienzo Charro de la Expo facilities through November 1, 2015.
Attractions include a petting area and other activities for children; live music by more than 20 bands, including the popular Banda Monumental de Viento de la Unión Regional Ganadera de Jalisco; and performances by the famous Domecq dancing horses.
The fairgrounds are open every day from 12 pm to 1:00 am. Admission is $45 pesos for adults and $15 pesos for children.
