Mérida, Mexico - Fuddruckers has opened a second restaurant in Mexico.
The 5,400-square-foot restaurant seats 160 people and opened Nov. 30 at Plaza Altabrisa, an upscale mall in Mérida, officials with parent company Luby's Inc., announced. Mérida is the capital city of Mexico's Yucatán state with a population of about 1 million.
"We're excited to be expanding in Mexico and couldn't ask for a better site to introduce a home of the 'World's Greatest Hamburgers' in Mérida," Luby's Chief Operating Officer Peter Tropoli said in a statement.
Fuddruckers' first Mexican location opened in Villahermosa, the capital city of the Gulf coastal state Tabasco.
Working with franchisees, the company has grown its global footprint in 2015 including a second location in Milan, Italy and a new Colombia restaurant.
Fuddruckers has 106 franchise locations across the U.S. and now 8 foreign countries: Canada, Chile, Colombia, Italy, Mexico, Panama, Poland, and the Dominican Republic.
During a conference call in October for the company's fourth-quarter earnings, company officials said they planned to open 10 new Fuddruckers franchise locations in the United States and abroad in 2016.
Luby's has 76 company-owned Fuddruckers restaurants in the United States.
