PV Mayor's 2016 Project: Stage More Sporting Events

On February 26 there will be a synchronized swimming performance by the #1 Team in Jalisco, and on the 27, 250 male and female swimmers will participate in the IV Interscholastic Swimming Championship.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Municipal Sports Council (COMUDE) has scheduled a series of sporting events for 2016. According to Puerto Vallarta Mayor, Arturo Dávalos Peña, the program seeks to involve the general public in sports activities, so events will be held at the local, regional and state levels. So far there are 18 events on the agenda, however, according to the Director of COMUDE, José Amador Hernández Madrigal, more activities are expected to be added to the program.

The schedule of 2016 sporting events begins on January 16 and 17 with the IV Circuito de Atletismo Vallarta 2016, as part of the State's qualifying field for the National Olympiad. This will be held in collaboration with the Club Halcones in Puerto Vallarta and 350 participants are expected.

In the month of February, there will be intense activity, starting from the 19th to the 21st with the Tercer Selectivo Estatal de Boxeo (the state's third boxing selective) where 80 fighters will participate in this qualifying tournament for the National Olympiad.

On February 26 there will be a synchronized swimming performance by the #1 Team in the State of Jalisco, in order to promote this discipline.

The IV Campeonato Interescolar de Natación (IV Interscholastic Swimming Championship) will take place on February 27th, with 250 participating male and female swimmers, whose aim is to propagate and develop swimming in colleges, schools and local clubs. The Fifth Edition will take place on May 28th.


In order to promote physical activities, there will be 4 athletic races with an expected average of 200 local participants in each, on February 28, April 24, June 26 and Sept. 25.

On March 19, the Serial Copa Vallarta de Aguas Abiertas 2016 (Vallarta Open Water Cup 2016) will be held by invitation. This event is organized by the Asociación Nacional de Natación (National Swimming Association,) with 400 athletes from Jalisco competing.

On the same day, the 2016 Vallarta Triathlon begins, a two-day-long competition amongst 200 invited athletes, which is intended to be established as part of the Association of the State of Jalisco's activities.

On March 20, the Campeonato Regional de Ciclismo de Ruta (Road Cycling Regional Championship) will be held with 230 riders in the youth and masters categories.

During the month of April the Copa Regional de Ciclismo de Montaña (Regional Mountain Biking Cup) will have 250 competitors between youth and masters.

In May, approximately 800 participants will compete in the 2016 Puerto Vallarta Copa de Gimnasia Rítmica (Rhythmic Gymnastics Invitational Cup,) with gyms from throughout the State and the rest of the country invited.

On July 24 the Copa Vallarta de Natación (Vallarta Swimming Cup) will take place. Three-hundred participants have been invited to enter this competition, which is a preparatory event for the National Olympiad.

On September 23 and 24, about 100 coaches, technicians and local sports instructors will attend training conferences and workshops.

To close PV's 2016 sporting events calendar, the VI Campeonato Interescolar de Natación (VI Inter-School Swimming Championships) will be held on October 29 with about 250 competitors; and from December 2-4 the VI Regional del Deporte Adaptado (VI Regional Adapted Sports), a qualifying event in the National Paralympics 2017 selection process, will host around 200 participants.
