June News from PV's Purr Project Feline Shelter

June 1, 2016

Donations are the only source of funding to provide food, shelter, and veterinary care for the 200 + cats and kittens in residence at Purr Project, a no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Here's the latest news from Purr Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

It's been a crazy Springtime at the shelter with 45 rescue animals received in the last two months. Three were nursing mothers plus two other adult cats. The rest were kittens between 3 weeks and 8 weeks old... 12 left at the gate just this week!

All have survived, though one little female had to have an eye removed. That means 40 kittens all coming "of age" and ready for adoption at the same time so Dra. Eva is very busy with vaccinations and spay or neuter! It also means a LOT of litter boxes for Jose to clean... and a lot of expensive Royal Canin Kitten Growth food to buy.

Basically, this means we are FULL! With only one Adoption Booth a week now (Plaza Marina on Fridays) it could take all summer to find homes for all these cute and cuddly kitties. If you are interested in giving a Furr-ever Home to one, contact Linda at adopt(at)purrproject.com for more information.

"Lady Bug" was one of five kitties we took in along with their mother in March of 2015 at about six weeks of age. All the brothers and sisters went to families in Guadalajara but Lady Bug found her Forever Home here with Hugo and Natalie Armendariz. Their Mama Ophelia was also a calico and she still lives in the gardens of our shelter.

Lady Bug's new "mother" Natalie recently wrote: "Little Miss Lady Bug is spoiled rotten and she always gets her way. Thank you, Purr Project, for this missing piece of our family."

And speaking of Lady Bug, here she is featured as Miss June in the PuRR Project 2016 Calendar!! This photo was taken by volunteer Bama Brasseal when Lady was just a little kitty and still looking for her Furr-ever home.

Bama and our fantastic graphic designer Griffin Page of Griffin Graffix are hard at work on the 2017 Special 5th Anniversary Edition of the calendar. We promise it will be the best one yet, featuring the amazing eyes of some very special PuRR Project felines... we'll let you know who they are next month! It should be ready in August and we'll give you more info soon on how you can order yours online.

Upcoming Events – Garage Sale:

Yes, I know... the Garage Sale is not until October, but it's not too early to start thinking of things to donate. The sale has been very successful the last two years and raises much needed funds after a looooong summer! Small appliances, electronics, bedding, decorative pillows, lamps, toys, office equipment, jewelry, gently used CLEAN clothing... really, just about anything you have around that you no longer use or need will be appreciated. We'll send out info on where and how to donate later in the summer.
