Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - You would be hard-pressed to name a cocktail more perfect for enjoying in sunny Puerto Vallarta than the classic Margarita. Tart, refreshing and featuring Tequila, which is produced right here in our state of Jalisco, it is the quintessential Mexican cocktail.
However, on the rocks or blended, Margaritas come with a high caloric punch (up to 550 calories in a 10 ounce serving) which can do some damage to that beach body you have been working on. But fear not, we have found the ultimate skinny margarita recipe that has all the yum factor for less than half the calories. Here is how to make it:
Ingredients:
Coarsely ground sea salt
2 ounces (1/4 cup) silver tequila
1½ small limes
½ of a medium orange
1 teaspoon light agave nectar
1 lime wedge or round, for garnish
Preparation:
1. Pour the salt on to a small plate, wet the rim of your margarita glass with a small piece of lime and twist the glass in the salt to rim it. Add ice to your glass and put it aside.
2. Fill a small cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the tequila, add the freshly squeezed juice from the limes and the orange and add the agave nectar. Put on the lid and shake for 30 seconds. Strain the liquid into your glass and garnish with a slice of lime.
All that refreshing deliciousness for just 184 calories per serving. Try it and let us know what you think!
