Lausanne, Switzerland - Part of the 2015-2016 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour, the Puerto Vallarta Open, which was scheduled to take place from October 11 to 16, has been cancelled due to constraints encountered by the event organizers in Mexico.
Puerto Vallarta last hosted an Open in 2015, which saw USA's Nick Lucena/Phil Dalhausser and Germany's Laura Ludwig/Kira Walkenhorst claim gold.
Prior to the last two years' Puerto Vallarta Open events, Acapulco had FIVB World Tour events in 1999, 2005 and 2006 and Baja's Rosarito Beach hosted a FIVB World Tour stop in 2000. In 2014, Acapulco returned to the FIVB international calendar, hosting the inaugural FIVB Beach Volleyball U17 World Championships.
The 2015-2016 FIVB Beach Volleyball calendar featuring four Major Series events in Hamburg, Porec, Gstaad and Klagenfurt, four Grand Slams in Rio de Janeiro, Moscow, Olsztyn and Long Beach, the beach volleyball tournament at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and a total of 13 Open events, will now end with the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals which are scheduled to take place from September 14 to 18. The total prize money for the 2015-2016 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour calendar is $8,250,000.
