Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - Founded by a wonderful lady named Cheryl Schrean in 2011, Cheryl's Shoebox started out as an organization with the 'sole' focus of collecting and distributing shoes to the children, families and individuals in need throughout Puerto Vallarta and surrounding communities.
Though, sadly, Cheryl is no longer with us, in her memory, today Cheryl's Shoebox continues to flourish, collecting hundreds of shoes a year from visitors around the world.
Realizing that much more could be done for local families in need, this year, Cheryl's volunteers have expanded their efforts and are now working with schools in low income areas to provide not only school shoes, but also educational supplies and support for local educators.
To raise funds for school shoes and supplies for the 200+ primary and secondary students attending schools in Colonias Progresso, Lomas de Enmedio and El Satrillo, Cheryl's Shoebox will be hosting their 1st Annual Summer Beach Bash on August 7th, from 4 to 9 pm at El Oasis del Holi Beach Bar.
This fundraiser will consist of live music and summer-picnic-style games where teams from your favorite restaurants, bars and shops will compete for the title of Cheryl's Shoebox Summer Beach Bash Champions!
Local businesses are encouraged to sponsor teams that will be competing in the 3 simple time-based games that require the four teammates to work together in completing a fun task during the party. If you'd like to sponsor a team, click HERE to download the team sponsorship form.
Business sponsorship includes four tickets to the 1st Annual Summer Beach Bash, your logo on the event banner, and a shared table on which to display advertisements.
Entry fee is $100 pesos per person with all proceeds going to Cheryl's Shoebox. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. El Oasis del Holi Beach Bar is located at Av. Francisco Medina Ascencio #48290 in the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Zone.
About Cheryl's Shoebox
History: After vacationing in Puerto Vallarta for over 15 years, Cheryl Schrean made Mexico her home in 2010. Cheryl put a unique stamp on everything she did, including the many volunteer projects she was involved in around the city. After many friends asking what they could do to help, she started suggesting shoes. Cheryl started collecting shoes for various fund raisers and in 2011 started her own charity, "Cheryl's Shoebox." By 2013, Cheryl, with the help of many friends and the supportive local businesses, distributed over 4,000 pairs of shoes that year alone.
Today: Cheryl donated her time and effort to many charities in Puerto Vallarta over the years she lived here. Today we are continuing Cheryl's community efforts in her memory. In 2016 Cheryl's Shoebox has also assisted the newly constructed Banderas Bay Women's Shelter as well as assistance to families in need due to financial or disaster relief.
