August News from PV's Purr Project Feline Shelter

August 1, 2016

Donations are the only source of funding to provide food, shelter, and veterinary care for the 200 + cats and kittens in residence at Purr Project, a no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Here's the latest news from Purr Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

Simona's Senior Center Update

Many of you may have already read about our plans to build a "Senior Center" for aging cats that need more care that we can easily give when they live in the yard. Volunteers Glenda and Steve Bland have started a GoFundMe account to help raise the approximately $8,000 dollars needed to complete the new casita. A portion of the funds from the recent Richard Reed Foundation grant have been used to get the groundwork started. If YOU would like to contribute, please CLICK ON THIS LINK to donate by credit card. If you prefer, you may send a check to our U.S. address:

Purr Project USA, Inc
113 Mountain Laurel Drive
Milton, DE 19968

We decided to name the new building after our sweet Simona, possibly our oldest resident. She has been fortunate to reside in a casita for several years now, but we simply don't have space for all of the older felines. Thank you for your support and remember that every donation, large or small, will help us reach our goal of a safe and dignified life for our feline residents!

The Purr Nursery:

The PuRR Project Nursery and Maternity Casita has been super busy all Spring and Summer. During this time we took in 47 kittens, ages from 1 week to 4 months, plus 4 nursing mothers. We still have almost 30 of the kittens in the nursery and adoptions are very slow... seems like one goes out and two come in! That's a lot of testing, spaying, neutering, de-worming, vaccinating and expensive kitten food! We will continue to have adoptable kittens each Friday at Plaza Marina from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, and this is a great time to give a Furr-ever home to a PuRR kitty!

Gracias! Thanks! Merci!

We are very thankful to the Richard R. Reed Foundation for their grant of $5,000 USD in July. The donation came at a perfect time! Half of the money was designated to start building the foundation of the new Senior Feline Center and the rest for food and medicines. The PuRR Project shelter originally took in over 50 rescue cats from the Isla Cuale and many of these are part of our aging population (as a no-kill shelter) and will benefit from the new building. Puro Gato also received a donation to continue caring for and feeding the cats that now live on the Island.

The Richard R. Reed Foundation is private and was established to provide grants for small non-profits to help children and animals in need in the United States and Mexico.
