Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Amapas area of Puerto Vallarta has become a popular place for people who can no longer keep pets to just dump them on the beach, on the highway near Pemex, or in the Conchas Chinas area. Most of these dogs and some cats are not street animals and have no chance of survival on their own. Most are friendly and in desperate need of being saved.
Amapas Neighborhood Association members Clare W. Leach and her husband have rescued three abandoned pets since mid-September. One of them was a little black and white dog who got hit by a car and laid in a ditch near Conchas Chinas for 40 hours before being rescued by SPCAPV Sanctuary. He was paralyzed and near death. "Buster" is now walking and at the sanctuary awaiting adoption. He is a miracle but many passed by him without helping before he was saved.
What you can do? Capture the dog and if injured have a heart and take it to a vet and pay for treatment, which is very reasonably priced here in Puerto Vallarta.
Email the SPCAPV at spcapv(at)gmail.com with a photo of the animal and ask for help. They will either come get the animal if they have room or advise of options, if they don't.
The the SPCA of Puerto Vallarta is a no kill sanctuary. For more information on how you can help please email clare23leach(at)gmail.com.
The Amapas Neighborhood Association is the official association of residents and business owners in the Colonia Amapas of Puerto Vallarta. A volunteer and not-for-profit association with about 350 members, the ANA was founded in 2002 to improve the quality of life in Amapas. We work to keep our neighborhood safe, beautiful, desirable and welcoming to tourists and residents from all countries and walks of life. We are also the official "Junta Vecinal" or neighborhood council for Amapas, the legal representative of the neighborhood to the city government. Learn more at AmapasPV.com.
