Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - Sculptors and would-be sculptors have a great opportunity in Puerto Vallarta. Internationally famous sculptor Jim Demetro is now giving classes in the art.
Beginning on March 13, Demetro will teach a beginner's class in the art of sculpturing. The class will last one week, with sessions running from 10 am to 2 pm Monday through Friday. Intermediate and advanced classes will also be offered at a later date.
Demetro is best known in Vallarta for his life size pieces. His Vallarta Dancers is the most photographed piece on the Malecôn. The Washer Woman is a classic piece just outside Molino de Agua on the Malecôn. Lazaro Cardenas Park is home to Demetro's Andale Bernardo, a sculpture depicting two boys trying to get their donkey to move. And his life size statues of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton can be found at Casa Kimberly, once the home of Elizabeth Taylor.
His classes are kept to a small number of students to allow personal guidance. The classes are held in the Demetro Gallery at Lazaro Cardenas #165 between the Plaza Mar Condominiums and the Hotel Eloisa.
