Rincón de Guayabitos, Mexico - The third edition of Guayabitos Bike Fest kicks off today, Friday, March 17, in the Riviera Nayarit, offering cycling enthusiasts 3 days of bike rides and cycling competitions, talks on bicycles as a means of transportation, exhibitions, food, music, and contests.
According to festival organizer, Alejandro Haro, the idea is to bring together the top disciplines in bike riding in one place: route, mountain, urban and BMX. "What we'd like to see happen is for bike riders to shed their labels and come together to form a single cycling culture and community," she said.
The fun starts on the Malecón in La Peñita at 5:00 pm on Friday with an urban bike ride through the towns of La Peñita de Jaltemba, Rincón de Guayabitos and Los Ayala.
On Saturday at 6:00 pm, there will be two simultaneous competitions. One is a cycling route for 112 km between Tepic and Guayabitos; within this route there will be an 18 km race against the clock between the villages El Llano and Platanitos.
The other race on Saturday is a mountain bike race from Playa de Los Ayala to the Sierra de Vallejo and back, to complete 50 km. There will be a social event at the close of both races where there will be food available, live music and contests. Afterwards a BMX trial exhibition will be held at around 3:00 pm, followed by an awards ceremony for the winners in each race category.
About 250 competitors and their families and friends are expected to attend. To date there are participants confirmed from León, Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, Tepic and several other destinations along the Riviera Nayarit.
