Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Targeting a market that tends to spend 33 percent more on vacation than the average traveler, the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board served as a sponsor of the LGBT Wedding Expo held in Sacramento, California on March 6, 2017.
Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust representative Jesús Langarica reported that more than 75 exhibitors gathered at the Expo, among them Puerto Vallarta hotels, including the Almar Resort & Spa, Costa Sur, Garza Blanca, Mousai and Villa Mercedes. These select properties showcased the specialized services offered to the Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender (LGBT) market that seeks to marry, travel on a honeymoon, celebrate anniversaries or enjoy a trip as a couple.
According to the Federal Tourism Secretary, this segment currently represents 3% of the total number of national and international travelers to Mexico, and it is a strong market whose total investment is around $75 billion U.S. dollars.
As one of the LGBT community's three favorite tourist destinations in Mexico, Puerto Vallarta's popularity has grown in recent years. The city boasts a potpourri of LGBT tourism services and amenities, including gay or gay-friendly beaches, hotels, businesses, restaurants, night clubs, boutique shops - and even a section of town - La Zona Romantica. This, in addition to the quality of life and characteristic friendliness of Vallartenses, has made the presence of the LGBT community, and its average daily spending, increase year after year.
Since it is important to make it known that, with the new legislation that came into effect in 2016, same-sex civil weddings are legal in Puerto Vallarta, the exhibitors made it clear that if you're dreaming of marrying your life partner with your toes in the sand and spending your honeymoon basking on a tropical beach, Puerto Vallarta is the perfect place for your destination wedding.
General information on the destination was also provided. Attendees were very interested in knowing more about the nightlife in Puerto Vallarta, since it is considered epic to the level of big cities around the world, especially in the Romantic Zone, which is home to dozens of gay and gay-friendly bars, nightclubs and cabarets that offer a wide variety of shows and entertainment.
Attendees were also invited to enjoy the upcoming events scheduled to be held here, among them the Fifth Annual Vallarta Pride Festival, which will be celebrated May 21 through 28, 2017 through a series of artistic and cultural activities, concerts, pool parties, parades, and lots of fun.
As a sponsor, the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board provided some lucky winners with stays in the PV hotels that participated in the Sacramento LGBT Wedding Expo.
