Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - Puerto Vallarta restaurants are busy preparing to serve the hundreds of people expected to attend the fourth edition of the Festival del Ceviche y Aguachile, scheduled to be held at Lazaro Cardenas Park on Saturday, July 29.
From 12:00 noon to 7:00 pm, visitors can try different recipes and styles of two of the city's most traditional dishes, Ceviche and Aguachile, at very reasonable prices.
A traditional Mexican dish, Ceviche is a concoction of fresh fish or shrimp "cooked" (marinated) in lime juice with tomatoes, onions and green chilies. But the Puerto Vallarta recipe is a little different than what you'll typically find in other regions. In the Banderas Bay area, carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and other ingredients are often added to the mix.
Aguachile (shrimp "cooked" in lime juice with red onion and salsa verde) is the second traditional dish that participating restaurants will be offering.
Both specialties will be served on tostadas with prices ranging from 15 to 40 pesos each, and you can sample 30 different varieties of Ceviche and Aguachile prepared by local restaurants, including El Rey de Aguachile, Donkey Hous, Mauricio's, Cuates y Cuetes, Los Cuentos and Swell Beach Bar, among others.
To complement the fabulous food, there will also be refreshing drinks typical of the region, specialty cocktails prepared with raicilla and ice-cold local craft beers available for purchase, along with live entertainment to add to the festivities.
Puerto Vallarta is renowned for its international cuisine and variety of flavors, and this festival is sponsored by the Municipal Tourism Department and the Vallarta Institute of Culture in an effort to promote the local food culture and the different flavors that our talented chefs offer visitors.
Make plans now to come out to Lazaro Cardenas Park on Saturday, July 29, for the Fourth Festival del Ceviche y Aguachile. You'll enjoy two of Puerto Vallarta's most traditional dishes, complemented by live music and folk dancing at this delightfully delicious family-friendly event. Admission is free.
