ASPV Students to Present 'Fiddler on the Roof JR.'

September 21, 2017

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The American School of Puerto Vallarta students are embracing 'tradition' with their production of Fiddler on the Roof JR. The show, featuring around 40 students from grades 4-12, premieres on Thursday, October 12, with additional shows on Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14. All shows are at 8 pm.

From the first rehearsal the students from ASPV have explored how Fiddler on the Roof JR. touches on life in Pre-Revolutionary Russia. They are examining important issues such as tradition, tolerance and faith, all of which remain relevant today. We applaud the unique ways that each student has contributed to the show, from performing, to designing props, lights and scenery, as well as Mr. Rob, our musical's director, for bringing out the best in each of our performers.

ASPV will present 'Fiddler on the Roof JR.' at our Javadpour Arts Center. Tickets are $100 pesos general admission ($80 pesos pre-sale), and a reduced price of $50 pesos for teachers, students, and children under the age of 12. Tickets will be available for pre-purchase at the school's cashier and at the gate. For more information, please call (322) 226-7672.

The American School of Puerto Vallarta is located at Albatros 129 in Marina Vallarta. View map. For more information, call (322) 221-1525 or visit aspv.edu.mx.

About the Show

Fiddler on the Roof JR. is a student version of the original musical which features music by Jerry Bock, a book by Joseph Stein and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and is based on Sholem Aleichem's stories by special permission of Arnold Per. Recognized as one of great American musicals, the original Fiddler on the Roof won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, nine Tony awards and a special Tony in 1972 for its unique contribution to Broadway.

The musical tells the story of a poor dairyman, Tevye, who in the little village of Anatevka, tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tightly knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. The traditions of his ancestors are shattered as his daughters assert their independence and government troops brutally force Tevye and his fellow villagers from their homes. The curtain falls on Tevye's uplifting determination to create another life in the New World.

Fiddler on the Roof JR. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI, 421 West 54th Street, New York, NY 10019 Phone: 212-541-4684 Fax: 212-397-4684. Music Theatre International is one of the world's leading theatrical licensing agencies, granting schools as well as amateur and professional theatres from around the world the rights to perform the largest selection of great musicals from Broadway and beyond. MTI works directly with the composers, lyricists and book writers of these shows to provide official scripts, musical materials and dynamic theatrical resources to over 60,000 theatrical organizations in the US and in over 60 countries worldwide. MTI is particularly dedicated to educational theatre, and its Broadway Junior titles are 30 and 60-minute musicals designed for elementary and middle school-aged performers.
