Puerto Vallarta - Act II Entertainment has created some phenomenal musicals over the past 5 years. Woodstock '69 is another hit show from the creative team of Rhonda Padmos and Don Pope, whose musical direction has also brought us The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Sordid Lives, A Chorus Line, and shows that revolve around the music of legends, including Tapestry (Carole King), Both Sides Now (Joni Mitchell), Coolsville (Rickie Lee Jones), California Dreamin' (The Mamas and the Papas), Rumours (Fleetwood Mac) and Come Together (The Beatles). What a body of successful shows! And Woodstock '69 is one more outstanding musical presentation from this incredible team.
The show starts off capturing our attention with real video footage of the Vietnam War and the protests against it. Throughout the performance, on the giant screen behind the musicians, we see historic video of actual moments from the Woodstock festival, billed as "An Aquarian Expedition: 3 Days of Peace & Music" in the summer of 1969.
A farmer in southern New York State, who was trying to save the farm, hosted this music event for what was supposed to be 50,000 young people. 400,000 peaceful, music loving youth turned up for this historic event. People parked from as far away as 5 miles and walked to the dairy farm. If you're old enough to remember the 60's, you'll love reliving the music of Woodstock.
The original Woodstock festival featured 32 acts. Act II's 'Woodstock 69' features 6 to 8 performers on stage, taking turns with solos and group numbers, playing and singing the music of some of Rock 'n Roll's most iconic musicians. The show features an extraordinary full band that accompanies the singers. We hear the songs of Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick and the band Sweetwater, just to name a few.
This exciting musical takes us back to all the favorite music from a remarkable era of peace, love and protest. Also included in the show is music from artists like Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Havens, Arlo Guthrie, Santana, The Who, Country Joe, Ravi Shankar (featuring a real sitar), The Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and more!
It's thrilling to experience the music and to once again have Woodstock resurrected in our hearts and souls! These are the songs that inspired a nation and helped to create a generation of peace and love. There's even an amazing psychedelic hula hoop, yoga twisting artist who entertains the audience with her free-spirited performance as the music is played and sung. And the beautiful costumes are wonderfully true to the period too!
Anyone who loves the music of the 60's will enjoy this inspiring musical that celebrates and commemorates a special time in both history and music. The cast is superb and the production is first-class! Come see this awe-inspiring show and rediscover the music of Woodstock and the 60's. This musical reminds us that, even when the political situation may seem dire, standing up peacefully for change will make a difference!
