Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - A new theatrical option arrived in Puerto Vallarta last weekend, this time aimed at infants and young children. 'Leonardo y su Crayón Azul' is a presentation of sensory and participative theater in an intimate space, recommended for babies from 3 months and children of up to 4 years of age.
The play, directed by Alejandra Pastrana, will return to Aquí no es un Teatro, the alternative space previously called La Estación at Venezuela 237, Col. 5 de Diciembre, on April 28 & 29 at 5:00 pm.
Inspired by the classic book, Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson, Leonardo y su Crayón Azul tells the story of a 4-year-old boy who loves to observe the moon; In his dreams, he manages to enter his notebook of drawings and, with it, a world of lights, games, shapes and colors in the company of his friend Sofía.
"Theater for babies is a genre that is very little exploited in Mexico, though its purpose is to create an emotional bond between parents and their young children in an art context. It also represents the child's first introduction into a theatrical environment," Alejandra Pastrana commented.
This scenic montage is divided into 2 parts. During the first part the whole story is developed with the participation of the children in the audience; in the second part, playful activities are carried out in which parents can also participate.
'Leonardo y su Crayón Azul' is presented by La Garra de Pachamama, an alternative theater group that has been touring cities such as Mexicali, Aguascalientes, Mexico City and Colima for the last 15 years, and has now come to Puerto Vallarta.
If you have young children and would like to introduce them to the wonderful world of theater, make plans now to see 'Leonardo y su Crayón Azul' at Aquí no es un Teatro next weekend. Admission is $150 pesos for parents. Children should be dressed in old 'work' clothes that can get paint-stained. For more information, call (312) 113-8701.
