Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - The Mexican Pacific League (LMP), will bring the excitement of professional baseball to Puerto Vallarta on October 2 and 3, when Los Charros de Jalisco will play preseason games at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Stadium.
During a recent press conference, interim Mayor Rodolfo Domínguez Monroy said that he has been trying to get Los Charros de Jalisco to come to Puerto Vallarta for quite some time, and now his efforts have finally paid off with two exhibition games scheduled to be played next month.
The first game, set for October 2, will pit Los Charros against the Secretary of the Navy's National Selection Team. This game will be free and open to baseball fans of all ages.
The October 3 game is going to be a very good match between Los Charros de Jalisco against Los Mayos de Navojoa; those of us who like baseball will enjoy watching these teams play at 'home.' Everyone is cordially invited to come out on both days to watch two very good games, which offer fun for the whole family," he said.
Salvador Quirarte, president of the Los Charros de Jalisco Baseball Club, thanked Mayor Rodolfo Domínguez for his support, as well as the Commander of the 8th Naval Zone, José Luis Arellano Ruiz, for helping make these preseason games in Puerto Vallarta possible. He pointed out that since Los Charros is the baseball team that represents all of Jalisco, the vision is to take this club to each region of the state, with the backing of authorities and businessmen.
He explained that for the games to be held on the baseball field at Agustín Flores Contreras stadium, which he acknowledged is in very good condition, some adjustments will be made in terms of lighting, and there will be a capacity for 1,500 people per game, so a great turnout is expected.
It was also announced that the first 200 children to arrive at the stadium for the October 3 game will be given a Los Charros figurine, but only in this second encounter.
Quirarte pointed out that baseball is a 100% family-friendly game, which makes it very popular among women and children. He said that they make up more than half of the fan base in Guadalajara, and that is what is expected in Puerto Vallarta, because these games will allow fans of all ages to enjoy a professional sporting event featuring teams from the LMP, which is the fourth most important baseball league in the world.
He said that he is already working on a project to open academies in different cities of the state and that news of the opening of the Charros-COMUDE Puerto Vallarta Academy could be coming soon.
