Many years ago, one more player was added to the team of people dedicating their lives to help save our environment. Originally from Montreal, Canada, Griffin Page left everything behind, took the plunge and moved to Mexico's Baja California Sur to begin her autodidact studies of whales, turtles, tropical reef fish, cactus and of course, the Spanish tongue and scuba diving just to name a few.

About a year before the move, after watching a truly sad report on the oil spill in the Galapagos and the incredible attempts made to save the lives of so many animals, she said "enough!" To quote her, she said: "I couldn't just sit there any longer, watching these types of reports day after day and not get involved. I had to do something about it. I knew that perhaps, I may never really make a difference, but I had to try. And I still do everyday. I am quite aware that alone, I can't change the world, but I can plant many seeds, and hope they will grow."

Nothing in her past could have even hinted at what her future would be like. Nothing had prepared her for the difficult journey ahead. She had majored in health sciences and biology in college and later had gone back for another career in industrial security and investigation. However, in the end, both areas of study would prove to be very helpful in her new chosen career.

Through sheer dedication and perseverance, she has managed to become perfectly fluent in Spanish, English and French. She applies her skills in a large tour company and specializes in informative guided tours oriented towards the conservation and study of Humpback whales and also heads the new Olive Ridley sea turtles release project for the same company, here in our Bay of Banderas. She sends her collected data to a local university to help in the research of these magnificent creatures and is also one of the very few "national whale watching guides" certified by the Mexican government.

A philanthropist at heart, she has gladly given her time for this good cause. She was a volunteer for the local SPCA as well as for a Jane Goodhall division back home. Here in Vallarta, for the benefit of underprivileged children, taking them hiking in our famous Sierra Madre mountains, other times organizing and doing presentations on Marine turtles and visits to a turtle conservation camp for students from local schools. She also writes articles for 2 local papers and created her own, continually growing, informative web site for all to enjoy.

Keep up the good work! We do hope your seeds will grow to offer us a life in better harmony with our natural environment.
