Mexico's Larios Registers Unanimous Decision Over McCullough

Mexico's Oscar Larios retained his World Boxing Council crown with a unanimous decision over Wayne McCullough in a super bantamweight battle on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Larios was awarded the decision 116-111, 118-110 and 118-109. He captured the title in 2002 by beating Israel Vazquez.

Larios survived an early onslaught to rally and beat the veteran McCullough (27-5) at the Palace Indian Casino.

Larios (55-3-1) made his eight title defence another successful one landing big punches late in the fight.

The 34-year-old McCullough pressed the action over the first half of the fight but was unable to hurt Larios, who began to seize control of the fight in round seven.

Always known for his ability to go the distance, McCullough was able to do just that.

Larios, who has won his last 16 fights, could be in line for a bout with Joan Guzman.
