Guillermo Gomez to Open at Galleria Dante PVNN
| Collectors find it hard to believe the talent in one so young as his sculptures are mature beyond his years.
| Puerto Vallarta - If it is true that you can be born with a talent, then it was never more true than with Guillermo Gomez. When people first see his sculptures, they inevitably ask if the artist is still alive. Collectors find it hard to believe the talent in one so young as his sculptures are mature beyond his years.
His university background was in Agronomics, with a major in Business Administration. In art, Guillermo is self-taught. He studied for two years in the workshop of well known sculptor Juan Gutierrez Reyes as well as under the supervision of Belgium artist, Carl Saegert. In 2000 he studied in Pietrasanta, Italy under the guidance of sculptor Cristina Mikulasek.
His is the show that everyone waits all year for - artists and collectors alike. Guillermo never fails to surprise us with his creativity and talent. Many of his works begin from a word, a quote and are transformed into works of beauty. He explores the human figure, in which he tries to explain motion, and emotion. Some of the figures are realistic, of an impressive realism and beauty. Although, on the other hand, he also explores surrealism, especially when he works in mixed media, combining the soft textures of wood with metals.
This year Guillermo has been very busy with commissions for new public monuments, so it has been a year of struggle to find the time to create many new sculptures for his show. His newest work, "Sublime Transition", took three months just to sculpt the wax (Mermaids, are mythological beings, but also metaphorical beings). Guillermo's interpretation spellbinds his collectors. More works to follow in late March and early April, so continue to watch the Galleria Dante website for his latest works. www.galleriadante.com
A loving husband and father of two sons, Guillermo resides in Guadalajara. He was born in the late 50's in the Mexican state of Jalisco. A gentle spirit, he requires three muses to reach his creative peaks: Solitude, Hope and Liberty. His pride in his roots inspired him to create "Los Mariachis", and after two years of research he was ready to create his band of merry characters. There were no trumpets or horns in the original mariachis, only 5 string instruments. Guillermo is currently working with the city to place "Los Mariachis" in an area of the extended Malecon.
A photo graced the cover of the 300th Issue of Vallarta Tribune. Guillermo’s works have graced the pages of Vallarta Lifestyles for years, but this winter he was the featured sculptor in the 2005 Vallarta Lifestyles Art Issue, under Profiles. Guillermo was quoted as saying: "Although I live in Guadalajara, it is in Puerto Vallarta that I really feel alive." He shares this love of Vallarta with his family.
Claire and Joe Guarniere, owners of Galleria Dante, are not only proud to represent such incredible works of art, but are also honored to have the privilege to work with such a wonderful young man as Guillermo and his family. Be sure not to miss opening night on March 5th, 2005 from 6 pm to 10 pm when Guillermo will unveil his latest masterpieces. |
