The CUC auditorium will host an homage to Mexican film director Felipe Cazals.
Puerto Vallarta - After attending last month's Guadalajara Film Festival, Spanish actress Maribel Verdú was welcomed to Puerto Vallarta at a press conference announcing the upcoming IX Festival Internacional de Cine en Puerto Vallarta, which will take place from April 8-14 at the CUC auditorium, Cinema Versalles, Cine Bahía and the Rio Cuale theater.

The festival, sponsored by the University of Guadalajara, will feature 20 Spanish Language films and documentaries from Mexico and other Latin American countries including Argentina, Cuba and Spain. Six of the full-length feature films, all from Mexico, will compete for the Iguana de Oro, a prize awarded to the best film as judged by the public.

The films in the running for the Iguana de Oro award are: El Mago directed by Javier Aparicio; El Biale de la Iguana, directed by Marcel Sisniega; Historias del Desencanto, directed by Alejandro del Valle; La Última Noche, directed by Alejandro Gamboa; El Mago, directed by Jaime Aparicio; and Noticias Lejanas, directed by Ricardo Benet. Judging is heavily influenced by audience participation, as movie-goers are given the opportunity to vote for their favorite movie after viewing the films.

On April 8th at 7 pm, the CUC auditorium will host an homage to Mexican film director Felipe Cazals who, during his 40 year career in cinema, has received numerous awards from all over the world. Cazals has directed many popular films, including Las Vueltas del Citrillo in 2004, Kino in 1991, and La Manzana de la Discordia, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 1969. A special ceremony will also be held at the CUC auditorium on April 14th at 7 pm to honor actress Carmen Salinas with a Iguana de Oro award for lifelong achievement in the movie industry as an actress and film producer.
