The center is operated primarily by volunteers and professionals who donate their services, as well as sponsors, who provide the center with the children's nutritional needs.
Puerto Vallarta - Proyecto Pitillal, Busca un Amigo A.C., a non-profit association that helps underprivileged children afflicted with cerebral palsy by providing rehabilitation and special care free of charge, recently inaugurated a new Hydrotherapy Pool. Not just any ordinary swimming pool, the new pool was specially designed for handicapped children in need of movement therapy.

The ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the Busca un Amigo Center in Bobadilla, with Engineer Ernesto Truqui and his two children doing the honors. Entertainment was provided by little Ailen Ramírez, who delighted the audience with a couple of songs, and Association founder Sra. Silvia Peña Hernández read some poems and verses for all the individuals, businesses and institutions that have helped and supported the Association since its launching two years ago.

Founded by Silvia Peña Hernández with seed money collected at a special fun-raising event last fall at El Set Restaurant, the growing center has also received support from the local chapter of the International Friendship Club as well as Children & Families in Need, a nonprofit organization based in the USA.

Busca un Amigo currently provides therapy to over 20 children ranging in ages from five months to 22 years, and facilities are being planned to welcome another 12 who have been accepted for the program. According to Silvia Peña Hernández, "This has been a dream of mine ever since my son was born in 1990 with special needs. He’s 15 now, and it’s been a long, lonely haul. But now I really feel that it’s been worth it."

The center is operated primarily by volunteers and professionals who donate their services, as well as sponsors, who provide the center with the children's nutritional needs. However, even with the effort of all the personnel, volunteers and parents, their still aren't enough funds to take care of all the children's therapy needs. Call (322) 299-4495 for further information and donations.
