Lázaro Cárdenas Park to be Next Parking Lot PVNN
Puerto Vallarta - City officials are making plans to give the Olas Altas area, also known as the Romantic Zone, a "face-lift" to improve the visual image of the South Side of Puerto Vallarta. The three-part renovation plan has a projected cost of three million pesos, which will come from city, state and federal levels.
The first step of the plan is to build the previously proposed [and much debated] parking lot where Parque Lázaro Cárdenas is now located, but city officials plan to include a renovated plaza with easy Malecón access from the pedestrian bridge over the Cuale River.
On the other side of the river, the extension to the Malecon continues to progress and the parking project of the Benito Juárez Park has already begun. The vendor stands that were once around the park's perimeter have now been closed and relocated to the Isla Rio Cuale.
The plan also calls for coordinated traffic lights to be placed at key intersections in the downtown and south side areas to contribute to a smoother traffic flow. The Colonia Emiliano Zapata association of business owners are reportedly behind the proposed plan, believing that the increased ease of access will encourage further foot traffic from the always-popular downtown area known as "Old Town." |
