Mexican Officials Arrest Migrants Who Posed As Clowns Wire services
Two Honduran migrants who tried to make part of their way to the United States in clown disguises were detained Thursday when bus passengers feared they might be masked bandits, police said.
Local police said Esdras Abacut Diaz and Edgar Alexis Sanchez Ulloa boarded a bus bound for the U.S. border early Thursday in the Gulf coast port of Veracruz.
Manuel Diaz, coordinator of Veracruz intermunicipal police, said the men dressed as clowns, frightening relatives of other passengers who feared they might be bandits and alerted officers.
Police stopped the bus as it was leaving the terminal and detained the two men, as well as two other Hondurans. None had valid immigration documents, Diaz said.
He said officers also arrested two bus drivers, three bus terminal security guards and their chief because they had hindered efforts to search the bus.
Abacut Diaz said he worked as a clown for a small circus company. |
