email this pageprint this pageemail usPVNN

Get out your dancing shoes! On August 22, the Los Mangos Public Library in Puerto Vallarta will start offering a series of dance workshops for people of all ages. So, if you've ever wanted to learn how to dance - here's your chance!
Puerto Vallarta - The Los Mangos Public Library, which provides the people of Puerto Vallarta with books, educational CD viewings, Internet services, film events and a myriad of educational and cultural courses and events, will begin providing yet another service to the public - a series of dance workshops for children and adults.

This series of dance workshops ranges from initiation to dance and classic ballet classes for children aged three and four and children's folk ballet, Spanish dance and Flamenco, classic ballet and Jazz courses for children ages six to twelve to Spanish dance and Flamenco, modern dance and classic ballet classes for adults.

Workshops will be taught by maestros Gabriela Arriaga and Sandra Soto. Maestra Sandra Soto, from Guadalajara, is a classically trained dancer with an impressive resume. Certified in academic classical dance and Jazz-style free movement, Sandra received a scholarship from the Hispanic Ballet and Steps and Jeoffrey Ballet in New York in 1995.

She was a member of the Gineceo Dance Company of the University of Guadalajara in 1997 and performed in the Guadalajara Ballet directed by Alex Zybin. She then continued her studies of dance in France, India, Indonesia and Japan, where she was initiated in Butoh dance with co-founder Kazuo Ohno and studied contemporary dance with Maestra Naoko Itoh.

Soto was also recognized as a top performer and choreographer in Jalisco in 1995 and 1996. She received a Young Creators scholarship from FECA Jalisco in 2002, and in 2003, she received a grant for her Butoh project from Fonca, Conaculta. With so much experience behind her, if Maestra Sandra Soto can't teach you how to dance, no one can!

So, if you've ever wanted to learn how to dance - here's your chance! Registration begins Monday during the library's regular business hours, and classes begin on August 22nd. Los Mangos Public Library is located at 1001 Francisco Villa Avenue. For more information about the dance workshops, call 224-9966 or send an email to probiblioteca@prodigy.net.mx.
