Time Change Becomes Possibility for Nayarit PVNN
| Many tourist-related businesses in Nuevo Vallarta find that they have to maintain their clocks at the same hour as Puerto Vallarta in order to prevent confusion for visitors. | Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit - Mayor Hector Manual Paniagua Salazar of the Bahía de Banderas municipality in neighboring Nayarit announced that he recently presented a bill to the state congress proposing to change the time zone of the state. Ever since Mexico decided to follow suit with the daylight savings time zone after the establishment of NAFTA, Nayarit has maintained the one-hour difference from not only the neighboring state of Jalisco, but also Mexico City and the federal government.
Tourism is the major industry of the state of Nayarit. The state of Nayarit's tourist corridor is an approximately 100 mile long coastal strip comprised of three principle municipalities; Bahía de Banderas, Compostela and San Blas. These areas enjoy a perfect climate, unbelievable natural beauty and some of the most exuberant and diverse ecosystems in the state, making it perfect for the tourism industry.
Since many tourist-related businesses in Nuevo Vallarta find that they have to maintain their clocks at the same hour as Puerto Vallarta in order to prevent confusion for visitors, Paniagua Salazar says, "it only makes sense that the government offices and schools make that change as well, to provide a more functional society." |
