(Photo: Eduardo Verdugo) | Mexico City - Mexican President Vicente Fox on Monday officially opened a set of expansion projects at the capital airport in which nearly $650 million has been invested over the past five years.
During the ceremony, Fox said that since he became president his administration had placed priority on infrastructure development "given the urgent need to become competitive at the level demanded by globalization nowadays."
Fox said that investment alternatives had been sought for the projects and found in the mixed public-private development of highways, ports and airports.
"This formula, which allows investment efforts to be combined, has achieved great success in the area of infrastructure, and thus we have started the broadest investment program in highways and communications, in ports the length and breadth of the country and in airports," he added.
Fox also said that before he leaves office, a new terminal building for the airport will be constucted to handle the expected growth in passenger flows in the coming years.
Also attending the ceremony were Communications and Transportation Minister Pedro Cerisola, as well as legislators and airport officials. |
