(Photo: EPA) | Mexico City – A poll distributed Wednesday shows former Mexico City Mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador keeping a healthy lead in the early race for Mexico's July 2, 2006, presidential election.
Lopez Obrador was favored by 37.9 percent of those surveyed by Consulta Mitofsky from Aug. 17 to 21.
Roberto Madrazo of the Institutional Revolutionary Party and Santiago Creel of the governing National Action Party were favored by 25 and 20.2 percent respectively.
The poll had a margin of error of four percentage points.
Lopez Obrador has consistently led in nearly all respected polls for at least two years, though his leftist Democratic Revolution Party runs third in the polls without him.
Heavy promotional spending by candidates of the other main parties, who are battling for their own nominations, apparently did relatively little to hurt Lopez Obrador. |
