More misery for Guadalajara, UNAM in Mexico
email this pageprint this pageemail usReuters

Mexico City - Guadalajara and UNAM, two of Mexico's most popular clubs, continued their unhappy runs as they lost home matches in the Apertura championship at the weekend.

Guadalajara, the only team in the first division not to field foreigners, went down 2-1 to Necaxa while Hugo Sanchez's UNAM completed their sixth match without a win in a 3-1 defeat against Pachuca.

Two goals by Alfredo Moreno sank Guadalajara, who were jeered off the field at the Jalisco stadium.

The Chivas, who have won only one game since firing Benjamin Galindo one month ago and replacing him with Spaniard Xabier Azkargorta, are fourth in Group Three with nine points from eight games.

UNAM are fifth in Group Two with the same number of points after another home defeat.

Beaten 5-0 by Cruz Azul in their last home outing, the Pumas were quickly in trouble again as Paraguayan forward Nelson Cuevas gave the visitors a fourth-minute lead with an individual goal.

Argentine-born striker Gabriel Caballero added two more for the Tuzos after the break while Antonio di Nigris replied for the Pumas.

"I'm worried about the amount of mistakes we're making," said former Real Madrid and Mexico striker Sanchez.

The victory kept Pachuca at the top of the Group Two.

Defending champions America, who lead Group One with 20 points, extended their unbeaten domestic run to 25 games as they won 2-1 at UAG with goals from Argentine Christian Gimenez and Chilean Reinaldo Navia.

Brazilian Eliomar replied for the Tecos.

Mexico international Antonio Naelson was one of three players sent off as Toluca beat Atlas 2-1 with two goals from Israel Lopez, the first a penalty.

The Brazil-born midfielder was dismissed for a second bookable offence in the 52nd minute and the Red Devils finished with nine men after Uruguayan Vicente Sanchez followed in the 90th minute.

Atlas had Guillermo Rodriguez sent off in the 26th minute in the incident, which led to Toluca's penalty.
