International Fishing Tournament Celebrates 50 Years PVNN

One of the most prestigious national and international sportfishing tournaments on the West Coast, the Torneo Internacional Puerto Vallarta de Pez Vela y Marlin has upheld a powerful presence among sport fishing tournaments for the past 49 years, and this year marks its fiftieth anniversary.
At a recent press conference, Mayor Gustavo Gonzalez Villaseñor told the media that with 50 years of history behind the tournament, this event is not only a Puerto Vallarta tradition, but also an annual celebration that reflects the identity, culture and strong roots of the people of Puerto Vallarta.
Tourism Regional Delegate Ludwig Estrada Virgen, Tourism Board Director Esteban Vazquez Lomelí, Hotel and Motel Association’s President Maria Jose Zorrilla, Maritime Terminal Director Francisco Martinez Narvaez, Fishing Tournament Director Raul Serna Navarro and Puerto Vallarta Fishing Club President Francisco Avalos Munguía were also present at the press conference.
During the press conference, Villaseñor urged community leaders and citizens to continue to support and encourage the Club de Pesca de Puerto Vallarta A.C. organization, saying that this type of event unifies and integrates the people of Puerto Vallarta, while building a strong foundation for the future growth of our beautiful city.
The Puerto Vallarta International Sailfish Tournament is considered one of the most important yearly events in our city, attracting the most prestigious fishermen from all over the world. Since there are over 180 fishing clubs in the national fishing federation, the Puerto Vallarta Fishing Club has always offered fishermen a quality event with valuable prizes and a spirit of friendly competition within the tournament.
The Fiftieth Anniversary of the Puerto Vallarta Fishing Tournament, scheduled to be held from November 17-20th, promises to be a spectacular event with $200,000 dollars in prizes and a 2005, B200 Turbo Mercedes Benz. And, to make registration, check-in and weighing-in procedures easier, participants will be given a bracelet bearing a bar code that is connected to a database that keeps track of their tournament information.
The Puerto Vallarta International Sailfish and Marlin Fishing Tournament is being promoted on a national level through roadside sign advertising in Leon, Guadalajara, Monterrey, Tepic and Mexico City. International advertising is also in place in San Isidro, California.
Mexicana de Aviacion has joined in the celebration by putting together a promotional package called "Go Fishing" (Vete de Pesca) which offers excellent rates and discounts, as well as credit plans and lodging options.
