(Reuters/Jose Manuel Ribeiro) | The tourism revenue of Mexico stood at $8.401 bln (7.01 bln euro) from January to August 2005, up 15.3 pct year-on-year, the Minister of Tourism, Rodolfo Elizondo, said on October 12, 2005.
The minister told the news during a meeting of the National Entrepreneur Tourism Council.
The tourists, visiting Mexico, totalled 15.1 million between January and August 2005, up 10.3 pct year-on-year.
The average spending of a tourist in Mexico stood at $698 (582 euro), up 2.0 pct.
The average hotel occupancy rate in Mexico stood at 60.67 pct, up 1.18 percentage points.
According to a forecast of Elizondo the revenue from tourism will stand at $25 bln (20.85 bln euro) in 2025 and some 50 million tourists will visit the Latin American country.
Tourism sector is Mexico's third largest source of revenue after crude oil and remittances. In 2004, the revenue from tourism stood at record high $10.839 bln (9.04 bln euro) and the number of foreign tourists increased 10 pct year-on-year.
