| Click HERE to see the play list, or visit PuertoVallartaFilm.com for more information about the featured movies, their show times, and all of the events scheduled to take place during the Third Annual Puerto Vallarta Film Festival. | The Silver Screen comes alive November 7th-12th as the Puerto Vallarta Film Festival enters its third and best year ever. This year's event will feature 70 films from North and South America. Indie films and major studio films alike will grace the screens of Cinemark during the 6 day festival.
The organizers have established this festival to be a distinctive one, unique not only due to the relative rarity of film festivals in Mexico, but also because it is held in a tropical vacation destination that enjoys a strong association with the Huston Family. The grandson of John Huston will make his screen debut this year at the festival.
Robert Roessel, the president and founder of the Puerto Vallarta Film Festival brings over 25 years of industry experience to the table, including 15 years with Warner Brothers, and many other postings throughout the film industry.
Roessel has definitely shown his abilities in organizing this year's event, working with his team to bring together a collection of amazing films from all over North America, many of them fresh from this year's Vancouver Film Festival.
Last year's festival was a great event even after some funding and logistical difficulties, but this year has seen even greater support from many local and national sponsors in addition to the ongoing support the famous Huston family has always given to the Puerto Vallarta Film Festival.
Due to the enormous effort made by event organizers and sponsors, participation and turnout expectations are high for this year's film festival. With its beautiful weather, breathtaking scenery and history of great feature films dating back to Night of the Iguana Puerto Vallarta is the perfect backdrop for this festival.
This year's event will highlight that history and tradition with great feature films and documentaries from some of todays best talent, including Roger Corman, an independent filmmaker with over 550 movie titles to his credit.
Corman's first role in the film industry was in 1954, when he produced the original film "Fast and the Furious." He currently has two films in post-production and has recently announced the release of a new feature film.
During this year's event, introductions to the featured films that include a behind-the-scene look at the making of the films and other interesting information will be made by various directors, actors and other participants.
If you've never been to a film festival, this is the truly interesting part of the celebration. Through these introductions, you'll gain a lot of perspective into the process, inspiration and techniques that go into the movie making process.
Ticket prices are less than what you'd expect for a film festival, ranging from $10 to $50 pesos per movie, and are available for purchase at the Cinemark theatre. One of the films in this year's festival is September Tapes, a chilling and heart wrenching tale that is worth seeing at any price.
September Tapes is in good company with the many other titles that deserve recognition for the writing, cinematography and production that make for the masterful works being presented this year.
The event will consist of not only screenings and premiers, but also seminars and workshops put on by some of the movie industry's greatest talents. The workshops will be focused on casting, production design, horror filmmaking and independent film production.
The festival will also include awards such as the John Huston Maverick Award, Richard Burton Thespian Award, Gabriela Figueroa Award, Elizabeth Taylor Humanitarian Award, Emilio Fernandez Award and the Puerto Vallarta Film Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.
Although Robert Roessel was reluctant to drop names at the press conference, he did mention that Peter O'Toole and Roger Corman will be among the many celebrities in attending the various events
Film festivals are often good places to star gaze and rub elbows with Hollywood types, and can be a fun place to get autographs and pictures. Gala events will be held in various locations in Nuevo Vallarta for sponsors and participants each night of the festival as well.
The 2005 Puerto Vallarta Film Festival promises to be a great opportunity to see great films from a variety of genres - or maybe get a sneak peak at the next blockbuster or the Martin Scorsese of the future.
