Toys for Tots Vallarta 2005 PVNN
| Last year Toys for Tots Vallarta collected 8,200 toys and distributed them to less fortunate children in the Banderas Bay area on January 6th. | Puerto Vallarta - For the seventh consecutive year, the now traditional and popular Toys for Tots Golf Tournament Vallarta will raise funds to purchase toys that will bring a smile to the faces of children who would otherwise not receive a Christmas gift.
Last year Toys for Tots Vallarta collected 8,200 toys and distributed them to less fortunate children in the Banderas Bay area on January 6th, called "Three Kings Day." Traditionally in Mexico, Three Kings Day is gift-giving time, rather than Christmas day.
The last day of the Christmas season, and the end of the 12 days of Christmas, Three Kings Day (Día de los Reyes) is a celebration that commemorates the Biblical story of the three kings who followed the star of Bethlehem to bring gifts to the Christ child. According to the story, the Three Kings – Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar – presented the Baby Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Here in Vallarta, each and every year, the Mexican Armed Forces, the American Consular Agency, The Navy League and local businesses join forces on January 6th to distribute thousands of toys to children throughout the states of Jalisco and Nayarit who would not receive a gift without Toys for Tots.
Most of the toys are purchased from wholesalers with funds raised from the annual Toys for Tots golf outing and gala dinner. This year, the golf outing will take place on Saturday, December 17th at the Vista Vallarta Tom Weiskopf course.
The entry fee for golfers will be $1800 pesos [$165 USD] per person, and includes green fees, golf cart, the Gala Dinner and various prizes. For those who don't play golf, the cost of the Gala dinner-dance is $700 pesos [$65 USD] per person.
The gala dinner will be held on Sunday, December 18th at the CasaMagna Marriott featuring a special gourmet menu, an open bar and live music for dancing, entertainment, a raffle, and the chance to contribute to the happiness of our local children.
As in years past, both Vista Vallarta and CasaMagna Marriott are donating the golf and dinner, so all proceeds from both events will go to buy toys for the children. Other sponsors include: the Puerto Vallarta Chapter of the Navy League, Coldwell Banker La Costa Realty, Continental Airlines, the International Friendship Club, and the US Marine Corp.
Tickets are available at the Marina Vallarta and Vista Vallarta Golf Courses, the CasaMagna Marriott Concierge desk, the International Friendship Club, [Tel: 222-5466], or through Puerto Vallarta Navy League representative Jerry Lafferty. [Tel: 221-6156]. Payment can be made in cash or by checks written to the International Friendship Club. |
