US Obstructs Elections in Venezuela Prensa Latina
| Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel | Caracas - Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel asserted that the US was involved with various opposition parties´ maneuvering against the December 4 legislative elections.
Rangel said candidates from several political parties withdrew from elections because they knew "they would not win and were completely defeated."
According to local media, candidates from Accion Democratica and COPEI parties abandoned the race.
On opposition party actions, especially the call to stage gatherings at churches on Election Day, the Venezuelan vice president pointed out "all rights are respected except conspiracies."
Referring to US interference in Venezuelan domestic political affairs, Rangel stated that Washington does not accept the international progress and sustained social achievements of Hugo Chavez´ government.
The vice president recalled events at the latest Summit of the Americas, visits to Venezuela and agreements signed with Argentine and Colombian Presidents Nestor Kirchner and Alvaro Uribe, and deals signed with Spain to purchase military equipment.
