Chile: Bachelet Leads Second Electoral Round Prensa Latina
| Candidate Michelle Bachelet | Santiago de Chile - Government candidate Michelle Bachelet has a five-point lead over right-wing opposition businessman Sebastian Piñera in the campaign for the second electoral round in Chile, according to the latest poll.
The ex Defense minister has 42.8 percent of vote intention, while her ultra rightist opponent has won 37.5 percent of the public´s favor, shows a survey carried out by the conservative El Mercurio daily, a week after the campaign began.
Bachelet obtained 45.95 percent of the ballots in the presidential elections of Sunday 4th and her rival won 25.41 percent. Another rightwing politician, Joaquin Lavin, obtained 23.22 percent of the vote, and progressive Juntos Podemos candidate Tomas Hirsch got 5.4 percent.
Mercurio´s poll was carried out between December 13 and 15 and included the country´s three major cities (Santiago, Valparaiso, and Concepcion), where the highest number of voters is. |
