Guadalajara Beats Tigres in Qualifying Tournament Guadalajara Beats Tigres in Qualifying Tournament
| Ramon Morales scored twice. | Houston - Ramon Morales scored twice and Chivas Guadalajara rallied to beat Tigres 5-3 in the second match of the InterLiga 2006 round-robin qualifying tournament last week.
The tournament will decide the two automatic berths for Mexican clubs in the Copa Libertadores. Necaxa beat Cruz Azul 1-0 in the opening match.
Aldo de Nigris scored three goals for Tigres, last year's InterLiga champion. He opened the scoring in the first minute, banging in a shot from 15 yards out into the right side of the goal.
In the 18th minute, Guadalajara tied it when forward Edwin Borboa took a rebound off a corner shot and knocked it in from 10 yards out.
Tigres, northern Mexico's most popular team, went ahead in the 21st minute when de Nigris scored from 13 yards out.
Guadalajara tied it again on Adolfo Bautista's score from in close in the 34th minute, and took its first lead on a free kick from Morales in the 42nd minute for a 3-2 lead into halftime.
Morales then scored on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute for a 4-2 lead. Gonzalo Pineda, acquired this month, gave Guadalajara a three-goal lead from four yards out in the 68th minute.
In the 72nd minute, de Nigris got his final goal on a header from 6 yards out. |
