Guatemala: New Voices Vs US Wall Prensa Latina

(Reuters/Jorge Duenes) | Guatemala - "A wall of ignominy and disdain for Latin Americans" was how Guatemalan director for Social Investments, Luis Flores Asturias, labeled the planned wall on the US border with Mexico.
The over 621-mile barrier to contain would-be immigrants will run through every border state: California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.
In commenting on the US plan to criminalize immigration, Flores Asturias pointed out that the Mexican and Central American residents in the United States are not stealing, but filling the jobs that US nationals refuse.
He supported Guatemalan Vice President Eduardo Stein in saying the wall is intolerable and nefarious for Latin America.
I think all the countries should join to show the empire our disagreement with its policies, said the former vice president of Guatemala.
The issue will be the goal of Monday's Mexico meeting of foreign ministers from Central America, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Colombia to outline a strategy to counter the "Border Protection" bill.
This is a key issue for Guatemala since more than 1.1 million nationals live in the US, nearly 700,000 of them illegally.
