8th Annual Pepsi Tennis Tournament At the Holiday Inn Bob Cohen - PVNN
| Top seed Yan Welffens and 3rd seed Dr. Raul Meza will be competing in the "A" division. | Tennis fever is hot in Puerto Vallarta and tennis pro Rafael Castellon of the Holiday Inn announced an amateur singles tournament that will begin on Thursday, February 9th and commence with trophy presentation on the final day, Saturday February 18th.
Men will be able to choose among four divisions, "A", "B", "C" and "D" and women will compete in "B" and "C" divisions. The ladies will play in the mornings, and men's matches will be played in the afternoon and evenings. Trophies will be awarded to finalists in each division.
Close to 100 players are expected to compete, with the largest draws in the men's "A" and "C" divisions. The cost is 150 pesos and each player must bring a new can of balls to their match. The winner keeps the new balls and the loser gets the once used can. The deadline for entries is on Tuesday, February 7th. Stop by or call the Holiday Inn at 226-1700 and ask for the tennis courts, or if your Spanish is good, ask for the "cancha de tenis".
The top seed in the men's "A" division will be Yan Welffens, fresh off his victory at the Canto Del Sol Pro Am, as well as the last tournament of 2005 at Los Tules. Seeded 2nd will be Duncan Forbes, followed by Roberto Martinez, Dr. Raul Meza and Sergio Martinez. The top seed in the men's "B" will be Hector Vanegas and Francisco Vallejo will be the top seed in "C".
Points are being accumulated in each division and the only way one can earn those points are to get out and compete. The player with the most points after the 10-12 tournaments this year will be named Players of the Year.
Call Rafael at 226-1700 to enter. |
