Zapatistas Warn of Rise in Tension Prensa Latina
Mexico - Subcomandante Marcos, Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN) leader, warned Friday that the country is on the verge of bursting with increasing tension and social disenchantment.
Marcos discussed the issue during his meetings with leaders of social organizations in Puebla, 80 miles southeast of Mexico City, on a stop of a nationwide tour "The Other Campaign".
He reported that during the march begun Feb 1, twelve years after the Chiapas uprising, they have found a nation going from pain to pain.
The capitalist system is building a true war of extermination in this poor Mexico for all to hear and see; some people can see it, others cannot, but it still there, and this Mexico is about to burst, he said.
This is what we have heard in our tour of southeastern Mexico, he added, as quoted by La Jornada daily.
Marcos said that, at the same time, "the large puzzle of what will be another country has begun to take shape."
He also announced that on May 1st he will travel to the Mexican capital to take part in demonstrations to mark International Workers' Day. |
